OVERCOMING GRAVITY - FRISBEE

OBJECTIVE:
Identify why different designs have different flying patterns.

BACKGROUND:
A frisbee is an aerodynamically designed saucer.  Discuss with students the form of the different frisbees to make sure that they notice the difference.  You must go over safety rules, because a frisbee that is tossed without looking can be a weapon.

PROCEDURE:
Materials-3 types of frisbees.

Look at the different frisbees and look at the structure of each.  Either draw a picture or describe its shape in the space provided below.  Then follow the directions of your teacher and record the type of flight.  In your conclusions discuss why one frisbee is better than the others and discuss why.

PROBLEM:
Are all frisbees created equal?

HYPOTHESIS:

Look at the different frisbees and look at the structure of each.  Either draw a picture or describe its shape in the space provided below.  Then follow the directions of your teacher and record the type of flight.  In your conclusions discuss why one frisbee is better than the others and discuss why.
