LESSON 2.  Measuring Skills (Lab)

PROCEDURE:  Use the appropriate measuring equipment and then answer the questions by using the equipment.

Part 1.  “Feeling” metric and English system

MATERIALS:  400 ml beaker 250 ml beaker, 1 cup, ruler (metric and English)

1.      Measure 1 cup of water.  Pour into a 400 ml beaker.  What is the closest unit that you might remember?

 

2.      Measure ½ cup of water.  Pour into a 250 beaker.  What is the closest unit that you might remember?

 

3.      How many  ml (milliliters) make up a liter?    Can you figure out if a liter is more liquid than a quart? (hint: 4 cups = 1 quart)

 

4.      Measure your index finger in mm and inches   .

 

5.      Measure your foot (with your shoes on) in mm    and inches .  If you do not have a measuring stick, can you use your body parts to help get an approximate measure?
