Carnivores, Herbivores and
Omnivores
Investigate how teeth are used to identify the eating habits of
different animals including humans. Compare and contrast
different teeth of each group. |
Health : 1.1.G
Explain that living things grow and mature. 1.2.G Describe their own
physical characteristics. 1.1.P Identify effective dental and personal
hygiene practices |
Kinder |
Looking at Digestive system
Explore the
sights, sounds and
smells of how food goes through your body. Explore how the
digestive system works and how it obtains important nutrients to make you
grow |
Science: K-LS1-1 observe and describe patterns of what
plants and animals (including) humans need to survive |
First |
Plants and Seeds
Plants have organs. They have different
parts like roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, that help them
growing and survive. Plants
provide nutrients including protein, carbohydrates, sugars and
much more.. Seeds will be emphasized. |
Science: 1-LS1.A: Structure and Function All organisms
have external parts. Different animals use their body parts in different
ways to see, hear, grasp objects, protect themselves, move from place to
place, and seek, find, and take in food, water and air.
|
First |
Trees SMany animals
live in the East Bay Hills in the eastern part of Union City. The
mammals, reptiles, birds, and invertebrates will be emphasized. |
Science: plants also have different parts (roots, stems,
leaves, flowers, fruits) that help them survive and grow. (1-LS1-1)
Health: 1.1.G Describe how
living things grow and mature |
Second |
Biodiversity Many animals
live in the East Bay Hills in the eastern part of Union City. The
mammals, reptiles, birds, and invertebrates will be emphasized. |
Science:
2-LS4-1 Make observations of plants and animals to compare the diversity
of life in different habitats. 2-LS4.D Biodiversity and humans. There
are many different kinds of living things in an area and they exist in
different place on land and water. |
Second |
Nutritious Food and Growth
Students will explore how growth and food are
related. They will compare different type of food to
determine what is good for their body.
Compare healthy snacks to snacks
with few nutrients.
|
Health:
2.8.1.N Practice making healthy eating choices with friends and family
(Health Promotion). 2.6.1.N: Set a short-term goal to choose healthy foods
for snacks and meals |
Third |
Ohlone Culture Look at how Ohlones lived, eat,
cleaned, create shelter, and how they entertained themselves.
Will explore how they fished and hunted and
look at the tools they used. |
History-Social Science: 3-2 Students describe the
American Indian nations in their local region long ago and in the recent
past Science: |
Third |
Plants that Ohlone Used
The Ohlones used the land to gather
food. They used the native plants like coast live oak to
eat acorns; tules to make boats and homes; and elderberry to
make food and musical instruments.es. Compare native
plants and how the Ohlones used them for food source.
Students will learn about the native vegetation that allowed
them to live and prosper for thousands of years. |
Science 3-LS4-4. Make a claim about the merit of a
solution to a problem caused when the environment changes and the types of
plants and animals that live there may change. |
Fourth |
Rock
Cycle - Sands The 3 types of environments in which
rocks are formed on the crust of the earth can predict what kind of soil
will be produced. We look at baby rocks or sand. |
Science: ESS2.A Earth Materials and Systems. Rainfall
helps to shape the land and affects the types of living things found in a
region. |
Fourth |
Biogeology - Soil
Living things affect the physical characteristics of their
region. Water, ice, wind, living organisms and gravity break rock soil and
sediment into smaller particles and move them around. |
ESS2.E: Biogeology 4-LS1-1. Plants contribute
nutrients needed for decomposition |
Fifth |
Composting Organisms are related in food web. Some
organisms like fungi and bacteria break down dead organisms and operate as
decomposers. Decomposition eventually restores or recycles some materials
back to the soil. |
Science 5-LS2-1 Ecosystems; interaction, energy, dynamics
Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals,
decomposers and the environment. 5-LS2A Interdependence relationships
in ecosystems.
|
Fifth |
Healthy Environments
A healthy earth includes clean water,
air, and soil. Humans interact with their environment
throughout their life which impacts health. What is the best way to
clean and sustain our environment? Does it help us feel better? |
Health: 1.3.P Describe how environmental
conditions affect personal health. 1.6.P Explain that all individuals
have a responsibility to protect and preserve the environment.
6.1.P Monitor progress toward a goal to help protect the environment.
8.1.P Encourage others to minimize pollution in the environment. |
