Butterfly Terrace Raised Beds
by
Rohun R. Patel
Troop 176, Fremont

We built two raised plant beds for the Tule Ponds at Tyson Lagoon. They are located in the Butterfly gardens and are six feet by 4 feet. They are built in a line parallel to a fence and were raised and lowered to be of similar heights. The wood was generously donated by Hulbert Lumber Company of Newark. The purpose of the beds is to provide safe location for local flora to grow and provide an ecosystem for local butterflies.

I was helped by many people when carrying out this project. I would especially like to thank Mr. Barry Willis for being my advisor. I would also like to thank my adult volunteers: Mrs. Debbie Willis, Mrs. Leona Jay, Mr. Rajesh Patel, Mrs. Manisha Patel, Mrs. Elvina Chi, and Mrs. Smita Patel. Additionally, my youth volunteers were Shrey Patel, Gregory Jay, Kevin Jay, Dante Accarrizzi, Zach Rogers, Rahul Patel, Sohan Patel, Greg Rupp, Desmon Chi, Myron Chi, Ricardo, and Carlos. Without the help of these volunteers I would have been unable to complete my project.
