Mud Slough is part of the Laguna Creek Watershed, but because
it is so close to the San Francisco Bay its habitat is very different.
It is affected by tidal action, contains salty water, and supports different
vegetation and wildlife than other parts of Laguna Creek. The fauna
and flora changes from brackish to hypersaline in some areas. Salt
evaporators are present on one side as the slough meanders into the larger
Coyote Creek, before it empties into the San Francisco Bay.
