Tree Swallow Nesting Box Monitoring:

This project is available January through April.  Volunteers will work with Sandy Ferreira or another ranger to count and monitor the growth of Tree Swallows that are using the boxes.  A similar project is available at Niles Community park working with wood duck boxes.  For more information about these projects contact Sandy Ferreira at (510) 791-4341 or email sferreira@ci.fremont.ca.us

Creating Public Awareness:

Help inform the public about various issues regarding Central Park.  Work with the rangers to produce informative brochures about geese overpopulation, wildlife information, the best sites to view wildlife and many more.  Then once the brochures are created and printed go out and distribute to the public.  This is a good way to become more involved in your community.  For more information please contact Sandy Ferreira or Judith Felber at (510) 791-4341 or email sferreira@ci.fremont.ca.us

Interpretative Presentations:

Assist the Park Rangers giving presentations about the park and its wildlife.  Help display the animals that are in the park's collection and give information about them at events.  Also help with children creating nature projects at events such as Earth Day.

Duck Island Monitoring:

Assist Park Rangers in their efforts to monitor the wildlife population on the island in Lake Elizabeth.  Monitoring may include checking swallow boxes, goose nests, cleaning debris, and counting many different animals on the island.  Please contact Sandy Ferreira for more information

Monitoring Water Quality:

Help gather information about the health of Lake Elizabeth and its surrounding waters by looking for various invertebrates and counting their numbers.  Also help clear debris from the creek beds to help increase water flow.  For more information please contact Sandy Ferreira.
