2008

Erosion is still a problem on Duck Island, but more of the trees that were planted in 2007 are starting to root and grow.  The clayey soil is very depleted of nutrients with little leaf litter helping to add needed nitrates and phosphates to the soil. Stunted growth of some of the trees planted in 2006 is noticed.

Arroyo willows have been planted around the erosion of the western end of the island (Feb, 2008)  Some of the willows are trying to grow on the northern side. (Feb, 2008)

Undercutting is very prominent as the edge is held together by roots (Feb.,2008) Willows that were planted in November, 2007 are showing some good growth, especially at base (Feb.,2008)
