GRAVITY - LAB

PROBLEM:
Can you distinguish each of
Newton's Laws of Motion?

HYPOTHESIS:

MATERIALS:
Balloon, 2-3 small balls, paper towel

 NEWTON'S LAWS OF MOTION

  1. An object in motion continues, unless acted upon by a force.

  2. Force equals mass times acceleration.

  3. For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction.

Follow instructions below and try to distinguish the laws of motion.  You must justify your answer.

  1. Use a paper towel.  Try to tear it slowly?  Then tear it by using a sharp jerking motion.  Which is more effective and why?

  2. Drop 2 balls of different weight from the same height.  Describe what happens?

  3. Push against a wall?  Does it push against you? Clue:  If you had roller skates on, and pushed against a wall, what would happen?

  4. Blow a balloon and let it go.

  5. Throw a ball (softly) against a wall.

  6. Throw a ball vertically about 5 feet.  Describe the path?
