Sound traveling far and
wide,
A stormy day will betide.
Rain develops as the density of the air drops. This density
change causes sound waves to travel differently, usually farther than
normal. This allows for a better mixing of the air which carries the
fragrance of the flowers, or the putrid smell of the marsh or ditch to
the nose. Animals, having a much better sense of smell can detect far
sooner than humans changes in the air and many times become restless
with the coming of rain.
Red
sky in morning, sailor's warning.
Red sky at night, sailors’ delight.
Red skies in the morning mean storms are coming, and red skies at
night means calm seas. This is usually true along coastal areas.
