REFLECTING TELESCOPES
Sir Isaac Newton was searching for
a way to reduce the length of a telescope and still enlarge an image.
He used a curved mirror to reflect and focus the light inside
the tube, and invented the reflecting telescope. Unfortunately the
image has a rainbow effect on the outside of the image, that
requires other lenses to correct. Ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths
can be used with reflecting telescopes.
