PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING SO WE CAN KEEP EARTHQUAKE FEATURES IN
CITY OF FREMONT
State Senator Bob Wieckowski and
Fremont Mayor Lily Mei helped to dedicate the
new signs that now are in 6 locations around Central Park.
Bob has been a proponent of preserving features throughout
Fremont so people can understand the dynamics of earthquakes.
He was involved with the 2006 effort to preserve the Earthquake
Trench, and has continuted to help the Math Science Nucleus
promote the science behind the earthquakes.
The Earthquake signs were designed by Connie Chao
(City of Fremont) with illustrations from Hagos Tewolde
Negusse (Math Science Nucleus). Dr. Joyce
Blueford (Math Science Nucleus) consulted with many
scientists including seismologists Drs. David Schwartz,
Jim Lienkamper, and Rufus Catching
(all from U.S. Geological Survey) as well as Cynthia
Pridmore and Timothy Dawson from
California Geological Survey. Dr. Garth Funning
and Jerlyn Swiatlowski from U.C. Riverside also
helped in the original design. It directs visitors to see
features of the Hayward Fault that dissects the park.
Look at signs online.
