MOWRY SLOUGH

Mowry Slough is one of the largest and deepest inlets in the south San Francisco Bay.  Portions of the slough  are located in Newark and Fremont. Presently there is a network of storm drains that lead into the slough, but in the last 200 years there was no natural drainage from the Diablo Range.  The slough meanders through a few miles of wetland, so the mouth has been isolated.  This has allowed the area to be home to harbor seals, which are the last endemic mammal to survive the human invasion.
